Closing a In Ground Pool
Vacuum & Lower Water
(Pre-Mix your shock before starting that way it’s mixed up good and ready to add to the pool)
1. Sweep Pool till clean.
2. Lower water to last return. {You can do this while vacuuming on waste}
When the water starts going down in the skimmer, to keep the water sucking through the
Hose put a wet towel down around the vac plate with the garden hose trickling water on the towel,
So you won't lose the suction and you can lower the water down just below the return.
If you don't need to Vacuum or you’re finished vacuuming before the water gets down below the return,
Turn off the valves to the skimmers and just run your Main drain. If you’re picking up air from the
Skimmers take the gizzmo and screw it in the skimmer till you’re done lowering the water.
3. Take basket out of all skimmers.
4. Unscrew eyeballs out of return line’s
5. Take out ladders & handrails.
Filter, Motor & Pump

Take lid off pump.
2. Take basket out.
3. Take out little plugs on side & front.
Where ever they are located on the pump & motor.
If there is no plugs vacuum out water.
4. Put all plugs in the pump basket so you will know where there are next season.
Sand Filter
1. Take out the plug on the bottom of tank & let all the water drain out.
If you want you can put the plugs in the pump basket with the other plugs.
D.E. Filter
1. Take off band in the middle of the tank.
2. Lift out grids; clean them with a garden hose. Do not take grids apart.
3. Clean out the tank.
Note: Not all tanks are the same.
Heater
1. Unscrew plug on the side of the heater to release the water in the heater.
2. Unscrew pressure switch to release water. {Leave unscrewed}
3. Turn off GAS to the heater.
4. Turn valve knob to off position.
Winterizing Lines
1. With a wet Dry Vac suck out all the return lines.
{Each one individually} until you hear air gurgling on the side that is opened.
2. Do the same to the skimmers.
3. Then put anti-freeze in the lines that have been sucked out till
You see the anti-freeze on the other end.
{You will have to use the vac to get the ant-freeze to the other end.}
{Turn off all other valves that you’re not using.}
4. Put plugs in the returns after you see the anti-freeze come through.
And put the gizzmo’s in the skimmer after you see anti-freeze come through.
Put a little anti-freeze in the skimmer after you put the gizzmo in.
NOTE: Use 1 gal. Of anti-freeze down each line
Depending on how far the filter is.
You might use more and you might use less.
Winterizing Main Drain
1. Pour 2 Gals. Of anti-freeze down the main drain pipe,or the valve.
{Turn off skimmer valve while pouring into the main drain. Put dial valve in closed position.}

Unscrew all plugs that may be on the dial valve & take out sight glass.
{Put all plugs in your pump basket for safe keeping & put the basket back in the pump for the winter.}

Be sure you put your grids into filter & put the lid on and the band on your tank.
{Then it will be ready to start next season.}
4. Be sure your Automatic Feeder is empty of all water & chemicals. And put lid back on feeder.
Adding the Chemicals
The Shock that you pre-mixed can be added around the pool.
If there is settlement in the bottom of your bucket, add water from the pool and stir it up and through into the pool.
Pre-mix the algaecide up in the bucket and add it around the pool.
If you are adding other chemicals pre-mix them too and do the same thing.
Then you’re ready to put your Winter Cover on.
DO NOT MIX ANY CHEMICALS TOGETHER.

1,000 - 7,000 Gals.
1 - 2 lbs. Shock (Cal Hypo)
1/2 qt. Algaecide 60%
Anti-Freeze
8,000 - 10,000 Gals.
2 - 4 lbs. Shock (Cal Hypo)
1 qt. Algaecide 60%
Anti-Freeze
11,000 - 15,000 Gals.
4 - 6 lbs. Shock (Cal Hypo)
1 qt. Algaecide 60%
Anti-Freeze
16,000 - 25,000 Gals.
6 - 8 lbs. Shock (Cal Hypo)
1-1/2 qt. Algaecide 60%
Anti-Freeze
26,000 - 35,000 Gals.
8 - 10 lbs. Shock (Cal Hypo)
2 - qt. Algaecide 60%

Closing a Above Ground Pool
Pre-mix Shock and have it ready to put in the Pool just before you put the cover on.
DO NOT MIX ANY CHEMICALS TOGETHER.
Sweep & Lower water

Vacuum the Pool.
2. Lower the water level just under the return. {You can lower the pool water while you’re vacuuming.
Just set the dial valve on waste} When the water starts going down in the skimmer, to keep the water
sucking through the hose put a wet towel down around the vac plate with the garden hose trickling water
on the towel, so you won't lose the suction and you can lower the water down just below the return.
Filter, Motor & Pump

Take out the plug in the Filter and let the water Drain out of the tank.
{Put plug in the pump basket for the winter}
2. Take out all the plugs in the Motor & Pump. {Put the plugs in the pump basket.}
Let all the water drains out completely. Some small filters system you can put
in the garage or shed out of the weather.
3. Take Hoses loose from the Skimmer and the Return. {If there not Stationary}
4. If you have a D.E. Filter take out the grids And hose them off till they are clean.
{Do not take grids apart.} Then put them back in the tank.
This way the filter will be ready for next year. You can cover your filter systems if you want.
Winterizing Pipes

If all your pipes are stationary blow out all the return lines with a wet dry vac.
Then put 1 gal. Of anti-freeze down each Line depending on how far from the pool.
Then put your plug in.

Blow out the skimmer line. Put in your anti-freeze 1 gal. Depending on how far from the pool.
Then put your gizzmo in skimmer.

If you have a main drain put 2 gals. Down it.
{You will have to tie-up the main Drain line so the anti-freeze won’t come out.
And so the pool water won’t drain all out.} or put a plug in it.
4. Now add all your chemicals to the pool. Then put your cover on.

8,000-10,000 Gals.
2 - 3 lbs. Shock (Cal Hypo)
